About the Collection

The Joseph F. Smith Library Archives and Special Collections is honored to house several groups of artifacts from Hawaii, the Pacific Islands, and other locations. It is in fact one of the larger collections of cultural artifacts (1,500+ pieces) in the state of Hawaii, and we are excited to use this new tool to make the public more aware of our holdings. Over time, we will add thumbnail images of the pieces, extensive metadata in English and in Hawaiian, and eventually high-resolution images and 3D images of these materials to make them accessible to people who might not ever be able to visit our campus in person.

The principle assets in our collection come from these donors:

  • McGuire Family
  • Charles & Leila Christensen
  • Douglas S. DeSure (Scrimshaw Collection)
