Poho pōhaku (stone cup or mortar)

Poho pōhaku or stone mortar was used together with the pōhaku kuʻi as the base to extract oil or grinds. It could also be used for the same purpose as we use cups today; for drinking, mixing dyes, lamps or chafing dishes.
Description: 

Mortar Stone. Circumference: 18 3/4 inches, Height: 3 inches, Width: 5 3/4 inches, Color: Brown Lava Rock, Weight: 2 lb 10 oz. Artifact looks as if it was intended to be a mortar stone but after another purpose. Fishing sinker or teetotum stone for catching birds. Mortars were used by the Hawaiians for grinding up food, medicines and bait for fishing.
